flourishing nature-positive communities

What This Looks Like in Practice

We can:

  • Assist with project design, planning and evaluation
  • Develop educational resources, workshops and learning experiences
  • Facilitate partnerships and collaboration
  • Support sustainable food system and nutrition initiatives
  • Support community-led environmental initiatives
  • Assist with biodiversity, restoration and citizen science activities
  • Support grant development and funding opportunities
  • Share stories, knowledge and practical examples of nature-positive action

In many cases, the role of Nature Positive Places and Play is to co-design projects or to provide strategic or operational support and strengthen the people, organisations and communities already doing important work.

What Does "Nature Positive" Mean?

Nature Positive is a global goal to halt and reverse nature loss so that biodiversity, ecosystems and human wellbeing can recover and thrive.

For Nature Positive Places & Play, being nature positive means:

  • Connecting people with nature through everyday experiences
  • Supporting biodiversity and ecological restoration
  • Learning from traditional, local and scientific knowledge
  • Strengthening relationships between people, place and nature
  • Connecting environmental health, food systems and community wellbeing
  • Encouraging stewardship, curiosity and action
  • Building resilient and thriving communities

This book Becoming Nature Positive: Transitioning to a Safe and Just Future. Marco Lambertini, Joseph Bull, Harvey Locke, Leroy Little Bear and others (2025) explores the origins of the Nature Positive movement, why reversing nature loss matters, and how communities, businesses, governments and citizens can contribute to a safe and just future for people and nature. Positionality

Dr Kristen MacKenzie-Shalders is currently undertaking a PhD exploring nature connection, place-based knowledge systems and the nature positive transition in island communities and Moreton Bay, titled Place-based nature connection: the role of local narratives and knowledges in the nature-positive transition.

Nature Positive Places & Play is designed as a collaborative, project-based initiative aligned with the global Nature-Positive Transition. Rather than establishing a standalone membership organisation, we co-design projects and offer our support and services by Auspicing under our partnering organisation.

Nature positive Places & Play (Moreton Bay) is hosted by Steering 3 Billion for administrative and web-hosting purposes but operates as a distinct initiative with its own focus, activities and partnerships.
